Lufthansa resumes flights after IT issues crippled operations

Deutsche Lufthansa AG is returning to normal flight operations after widespread software problems linked to damaged Deutsche Telekom AG broadband cables grounded hundreds of planes.
The situation at Lufthansa’s main base in Frankfurt is normalizing, a spokesman said Wednesday. Lufthansa expects the IT issues that affected systems including check-in operations to be fully resolved by early evening. Read more here.
US air cargo sector concerned over stricter screening rules

The US air cargo sector highlighted some of the concerns it has regarding the implementation of stricter cargo screening rules due to be enforced later this year.
From November all cargo must be screened before it is loaded onto a freighter but a panel at US Airforwader Association’s (AfA) annual meeting urged the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to work urgently with shippers to address the impact of the new requirements. Read more here.
German cargo operations set to be hit by airport strikes on Friday

Airport workers at major hubs in Germany are this Friday (February 17) set to take part in a day-long strike over pay causing disruption to airline operations.
The strikes organised by the Ver.di union will start in the early hours of the morning and end Friday night at seven airports: Frankfurt Main, Munich Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hannover and Bremen. Read more here.
Hong Kong Airport aims to further enhance sea-air services

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has signed a cooperation framework agreement with Dongguan Municipal People’s Government to further develop intermodal operations.
The airport authority has been leading the development of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Logistics Park in Dongguan and a new airside intermodal cargo pier at the airport to allow screening, palletisation and acceptance to be completed in Dongguan before being shipped to HKIA airside by ship for flights heading to overseas destinations. Foreign ships at Chittagong delayed as Bangladeshi lines eye their cargo

Foreign containerships calling at Chittagong are facing long delays before they can load containers at the port.
Under the Bangladesh Flag Vessels Protection Act 2019, and more recently implemented rules, domestic ships get priority when carrying containers to and from Chittagong. Read more here (login required).
